“I’ll Take You There…”

Wine Country Photo Tour

By Kate Kisset

Author of Just a Kiss

Book #1 The Single Girls Wine Club

I had so much fun writing Just a Kiss!  It was the perfect excuse to tell a hot and sweet love story set and set the tale in my home town. Grounded in romance and vino, my characters live and work in the wine country towns of Sonoma and Napa, an hour north of San Francisco.    The series centers on three roommates who live in an historic villa in Sonoma called “Bella Villa.” Each of the women, will “star” in their own book and be treated to a toe-curling love affair they never saw coming. Many of the book’s locations are “real.” I use actual events and pour genuine wine wherever possible throughout my story.  All of the photos, except the last, small screen-shot from a movie, are my own, taken with my phone camera.  So, let me show you around wine country…!

In Just a Kiss, Lulu Castelli is the landlord of “Bella Villa” but it more like a friend to the three women of The Single Girls Wine Club who live there. The actual building is an exact replica of the family home “Count,”Agoston Haraszthy built for his family. It is now on the Bartholomew Winery property in Sonoma.

This is Sarah Dupont’s view in my wine country romance Just a Kiss. I remember looking out at this spectacular view and thinking… “What if someone could still live here? What if she had roommates? What if she met the love of her life…?”

In Just a Kiss, Lulu Castelli is the great granddaughter of a famous winemaker very similar to Agoston Haraszthy.  Mr. Haraszthy, the self-proclaimed “Count of Buena Vista,” created California’s first premium winery in Sonoma Valley in 1857.

Just a Kiss is the first story in the series. It centers on the love story between Sarah Dupont and Jamie Santino. Jamie is one of  the six infamous Santino brothers of  Napa Valley Winery fame.

After taking the advice of her best friend, Sarah leaves San Francisco (and her idiot fiance) and  moves to Sonoma Valldy. She opens a café in the heart of town on the Sonoma Plaza.

There really is a bakery-café on The Plaza.  I didn’t use the name because Sarah and Jamie do the kinds of things that get “real” people fired. J Sarah’s shop is called The Vine Café.

Do you notice the green awning? Sebastiani Theatre is a California landmark and plays a big role in the story because Jamie Santino is an actor.  Sarah meets him when one of her roommates convinces her to give Jamie baking lessons for an upcoming movie role.

A much older crowd than Jamie Santino pulls in!  I snapped this from the café next to the theatre. I think they were showing a documentary about eggs.

Jamie grew up in Napa Valley, a twenty-minute drive from Sonoma.  His family owns the Santino Family Winery. So of course I had do a lot of “research” on wine…

Various photos of Sonoma and Napa events. Top left is the annual lighting of the plaza’s Christmas tree.  That’s what everyone is staring at…

In Just a Kiss the women get together for regular “Chill Hours.” In the summer, they meet around the villa’s pool to drink wine and talk about their day.  In the winter, they meet around a fire pit that looks a lot like this. Unrelated: My friend Cindy has the prettiest feet and the best shoes…

Now, back to the story…
